Front 9

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #1

  • Hole #1 - 389 yards, dogleg left, par 4. A high, 230-yard tee shot just left of the bunkers leaves a mid- to short-iron approach; It is a large green sloping slightly back to front. Avoid the left-side with your tee shot as OB tree and bunker will be in play.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #2

  • Hole #2 This green is wide and shallow. Pin placements on the right side play 10 yards longer than those on the left. A shot that flies high and stops quickly on this elevated green offers the best chance for a reasonable birdie putt. Distance control is critical. Avoid going over the green as small pitches and chips from the front are much preferred to those from over the green, and getting it close from either of the bunkers is difficult.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #3

  • Hole #3 - 539 yards, double dogleg, par 5. This is a three shot par 5 that places a premium on accuracy. A well-played tee shot of 200 – 225 yards will set up a second shot of 150 yards. Aiming left of the pond will leave you a shot of 130 yards to a well-guarded narrow green. The left side of the hole is OB from the tee to the green. The green is deep and narrow. Protect against missing the green long or right.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #4

  • Hole #4 - 160 to 210 yards, par 3. This narrow and deep green is well protected by bunkers, rough, hazards and OB.A shot to the middle of the green may still leave a putt of 40+ feet, so get correct yardage to the flag stick. The bail-out area is short and right, leaving a fairly simple chip or pitch up the slope to the hole. Do not miss short left as it is a tough blind pitch to the green. This hole is known by the members as “the shortest par 5 in Maine”.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #5

  • Hole #5 - 362 yards, dogleg right, par 4. Shape a drive left-to-right off the bunker into the middle of the fairway and be rewarded with a short iron into this deep green. This is a “3 Club” (30 yard deep) green. Trees and rough guard the right side from tee to green. Don’t miss the green to the left!

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #6

  • Hole #6 - 145 to 175 yards, par 3. Distance control is crucial. Hit it high and soft to the front of the green. This elevated green is wide and very shallow. A tee ball that comes in a little hot and deep is likely to bounce over the green and run into the hazard. Short is way better than long. If you're between clubs, choose the shorter. Take good measure of the wind by viewing the American Flag at the Clubhouse. The middle of the green here is never bad.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #6

  • #7 - 348 yards, dogleg left, par 4. A well-struck drive over the corner of the rough toward the twin pines leaves a short approach into this deep and narrow green. The prevailing southwest wind lures long hitters to go for this green from the tee; however, the fairway narrows dramatically near the green, which is protected by deep rough, a bunker and a pond. Most of the trouble on this hole is around the green. A solid drive up the left side of the fairway opens the approach to the green.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #8

  • #8 - 413 yards, par 4. This is one of our most difficult holes. It isn't the longest hole, but it demands a solidly struck tee shot and an accurate approach to a green protected by heavy rough, two ponds and two bunkers. Bomb it over the right fairway bunker and you can get a great kick off the hill deep into the middle of the fairway, leaving a short iron to the green. Keep your tee shot in the short grass. Avoid the bunkers and side hill lies in the rough. An errant approach is likely to earn a penalty so hit a club that keeps your ball in play. Chipping or pitching up to the hole from in front of the green is better than having to take a penalty drop from one of the ponds.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #9

  • #9 - 431 yards, par 4. Rip a tee shot up the pipe, the farther the better. Distance control is critical on your approach shot. A well-struck mid- or short-iron will hold, so go for it. Stay below the hole for the best birdie opportunity. Hitting your approach over the green will leave a nasty chip to a downhill slope.

BACK 9

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #10

  • #10 - 492 yards, par 5. The risk/reward quotient on this hole is attractive. A solid drive will leave a 200-225 yard approach to the green. If you go for this green in two, guard against missing it to the right. If you'd rather play it safe, avoid OB right and bunker left with a controlled tee shot of 180-225 yards down the middle of the fairway. Play your second shot to the 125-yard mark, staying to the right half of the fairway and well short of the rough that fronts the crossing hazard. You now have a simple short iron approach up the throat of the green.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #11

  • #11 - 375 yards, dogleg right, par 4. A tee shot that flies 220 yards up the middle will kick forward and right to inside the 150-yard mark. From there you can take an aggressive line to the flag over the greenside bunker. The green is deceptively deep; this approach plays long due to a prevailing wind above the trees, so make sure you have the correct yardage. Avoid the right half of the fairway. It slopes toward the hazard that crosses the fairway at the dogleg. There's nothing but trouble to the right of the fairway. Play your tee shot 220 yards up the left side. Aim your approach to the left of the greenside bunker. Guard against missing the green to either side. The tee shot length is critical depending on which tee you play.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #12

  • #12 - 365 yards, dogleg right, par 4. Aim your drive left-to-right off the bunkers into the middle of the fairway and be rewarded with a short approach to this deep and narrow green. Trees, nasty rough and lateral hazard guard the right side all the way. A 220-yard tee shot at the right bunker leaves a short approach. Don't hit you tee shot through the fairway. Don't miss the green left, right or long.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #13

  • #13 - 397 yards, dogleg left, par 4. Our signature hole requires a well-struck tee shot placed left of the bunkers, which will carry 230 yards and roll well inside the 150-yard mark. Get your yardage right and be rewarded with a birdie opportunity. Control your distance and direction off the tee. The green is wide and gets shallower to the right, so make sure you have the correct yardage to the stick. If the pin is right of center, hit an extra club.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #14

  • #14 - 381 yards, dogleg right, par 4. A drive up the left side of the fairway opens the approach to this deep, slightly elevated green. The green slopes from the back toward the left front. Gauge your approach distance carefully to avoid a potential three putt. Though it appears that the shortest path to the hole is up the right side of the fairway, do not go there. Anything hit right of center and short of the 125-yard mark is blocked from the green by tall trees. Stay left off the tee as there is more room than appears. Do not miss this green left.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #15

  • #15 - 135 to 165 yards, par 3. Distance control is the key to hitting it close. A following wind accelerates through the chutes formed by the trees, so make sure you read it right. Middle of the green is seldom far from the hole here. Take enough stick to clear the bunker. Do not miss the green long or left.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #16

  • #16 - 496 yards, dogleg left, par 5. This hole presents a balanced risk/reward relationship. It's reachable in two, but it can also generate a pile of penalty strokes. Forewarned is forearmed. A well-struck tee shot will start down the middle and move gently left-to-right, rolling down the slope toward the 200-yard mark just short of the crossing hazard. This is the "green light" area for getting home in two. With lateral hazards from tee to green on both sides and a crossing hazard just past the 200-yard mark, this hole can be daunting. A 220-yard tee shot down the middle followed by a mid-iron to the left of the fairway bunkers leaves a short approach to the two-tiered green. Avoid missing this green right or long.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole # 17

  • #17 - 140 to 175 yards, par 3. A shot towards the left side of the green is preferable as a target, because you can actually either end up on the green or you will have a manageable chip shot to save par. If you miss the green right, you will be faced with a tough up and down if you are lucky enough to find your ball. This is a “2 club” green so be aware of the pin placement.

Nonesuch River Golf Club - Hole #18

  • #18 - 435 yards, par 4. Let it fly, grip it and rip it to the top of the plateau for maximum roll and the best approach to this long par four. Keep the ball below the hole to avoid three putting. If you can't fly it to the top of the plateau, (the 200-yard mark is just past the front crest), Grip it and rip it again on this tough par 4 finishing hole.
